Programs: Second Chances Are Created

"Second chances are never given ... they are created."

-A. Lawrence Haskins

What content informed this program?

Our continual dialogue with incarcerated juveniles, corrections officers and the judiciary inform us that an unwillingness to accept both the responsibility and gravity of their situation is a tremendous hurdle to the successful rehabilitation of the juvenile offender. In response, we designed the "Second Chances Are Created" program to give the juvenile offender the system of thinking and insight needed to see the value, importance and freedom in creating their own second chance.

Where is this program implemented?

Alternative education schools, juvenile detention facilities and community programs that give exposure to at-risk youth. Our position is that the state of incarceration is psychological and emotional in nature as it is physical. Therefore, we believe the "Second Chances Are Created" program is befitting in kid looking to get a fresh start in his or her life.

What are the program's core objectives & components?

The core objective of the "Second Chances Are Created" program is to empower the incarcerated and at-risk youth with a sense of control over their own destiny. The program's core components are as follows:

  • Anger Honesty & Management
  • Facing Responsibility
  • What We Owe Ourself
  • Having the Guts to Do the Work
